SF @ COL 5/6/09

COL 11 SF 1

Ubaldo Jimenez RHP Rockies 7IP 5H 1ER 1BB 6K
He is a young pitcher that has had command problems this year. He showed electric stuff. His FB(92-98) has a ton of movement and is a Plus pitch when he locates it. His CB(72-80) is a 12-6 Power Curve and is above average, CH(83-85) has great arm side run and is average, SL(84-89) backed up a lot and is a fringe-average offering. He needs to work on the command of his off speed pitches. In the first four innings he had trouble throwing any over the plate for strikes, and when he was able to throw over a slider it backed up on him. His overall command in this game was average. He projects as a top of the rotation starter if his command improves. If his command stays where it is or gets worse, he will be a #3 or 4 starter.

Jason Grilli RHP Rockies 1IP 1K
He is a solid bullpen arm with average control. He showed an above average FB(92-93) and an average SL(83-86). He also has a CH but I didn't see any in this outing.

Manny Corpas RHP Rockies 1IP 1K
He throws from a 3/4 arm slot and has two pitches. His FB(91-92) is an above average offering that has good sink; His SL(82-83) looked flat and average for every pitch except one that looked like a Plus pitch that he threw down and in to strike out Shierholtz.

Randy Johnson LHP Giants 5.2IP 8H 7ER 3BB 0K
He throws from a low 3/4 arm slot and has three pitches. His FB(87-91) is an average offering; SL(79-85) was flat for most of the game, but he did flash an above average one a couple of times; SPLT(82-86) is pretty straight and he uses it to Righties mostly. His command was ok for the first two innings and then he got wild. He gave up 2 HRs on splitters that he left up. He looks like a below average starter now and is a fringe #5.

Osiris Matos RHP Giants 1.1IP 2H 1ER 1K
He has two average pitches. A FB(88-92) and a SL(80-83). He looked good in this outing, but gave up a HR to Todd Helton after a 14 pitch AB. He is an average reliever.

Brandon Medders RHP Giants 1IP 3H 3ER 1BB
He showed two pitches in this game. His FB(87-92) is an average offering and his CB(71-74) is an above average pitch. He had trouble throwing his CB for strikes, but when he did it was effective. He has below average command and is a fringe MLB Reliever.
