SEA @ CHW 4/28/09

John Danks LHP White Sox
Danks had good stuff during this game but when he made mistakes, the hitters capitalized. His line was 4IP 8H 5R 1BB and 2K. His FB was 93-96 and had average movement. His cutter was 87-91 and had above average movement. His CB was 78-81 and his CH 83-86. He left his change up to Betancourt and Yuneski crushed it for a Homer (YB had a ridiculous game going 4-5 with 5RBI. Trust me he's not that good). Danks just had a bad day and I can't wait to chart him on one of his good days.

D.J. Carasco RHP White Sox
He's a long reliever/11th or 12th man in the pen. He threw from 3/4 arm slot as well as dropping down for some FB/SL. He's nothing spectacular but gets it done with off speed and deception.

Lance Broadway RHP White Sox
I wasn't that impressed with Broadway. He looks to be one of the last guys out of the pen. His FB sits 91-92 SL 82-84 and CH 77-80. He may also throw a CUT around 86. He looks to be a 4A guy.

Felix Hernandez RHP Mariners
He's one of the three best RH starters in the game today (Greinke and Lincecum). He has 2 FB: a POWER sinker and four seamer that range from 93-98 (He hit 97 in the 8th) It is an 80 on the 20-80 scouting scale. His CH is very hard and was from 87-91. It is above average with great arm side movement. Both of his breaking balls are above average as well. His SL is hard and sharp at 87-89 and his CB is hard with great bite from 84-86. To go along with his awesome stuff, he has above average command: 36K/10BB in 34IP. He is really fun to watch!

BOS @ CLE 4/28/09

Anthony Reyes RHP Cleveland Indians
He looked over matched in this game. All three of his pitches were below average. His FB was 86-89 with some sink and cut at times. But by the third inning he was 81-85. His CB was 75-77 and looked below average while his CH was 74-76 and looked at best average. He had terrible control and was hit hard when he put the ball over the plate. I don't see him staying in the Big Leagues long unless his command or velocity increase.

Vinnie Chulk RHP Cleveland Indians
He was constantly falling behind the count and he couldn't command any of his pitches. It was the worst I had seen him this year.

Rafael Perez LHP Cleveland Indians
He looked like an above average LH Reliever. His FB was 91-93 and his slider was 85-87 with good tilt. It looks like LH Hitters will have a tough time hitting him and would be an ideal Lefty Specialist. He can also give you a solid inning plus if needed against both Lefties and Righties. His ceiling looks to be that of a solid set up man in the 7th and 8th innings.

Joe Smith RHP Cleveland Indians
A side-arming RH Reliever who gets great sink on his pitches. He is an ideal pitcher to come in when you need to get a ground ball. His sinker was 85-91 with his slider being 79-80. He also has a CH but I didn't see any in this outing. He projects to be at worst a solid reliever and right handed specialist.

Tony Sipp LHP Cleveland Indians
I first saw Tony Sipp my Freshman year at MD when he was an OF/P at Clemson. In this outing Tony looked nasty to both Lefties and Righties he went 1.1 innings with 3K and 1BB. His FB was 91-94 and looks above average. His SL was 82-85 and gave lefties fits. He also threw one average CH at 85. He projects as a back end of the bullpen guy, and I think he'll thrive in the pressure situations.

Kerry Wood RHP Cleveland Indians
His FB, although straight, looked explosive, sitting 95-97 and topping out at 98. His CUT was 89-92 and looked to have some good late action. He also throws a low to mid 80s slider but he didn't show one in this game. He gave up no runs, but has looked mortal against the Red Sox who are arguably the best hitting team in Baseball.

Brad Penny RHP Boston Red Sox
He didn't look that impressive and was out after giving up 7 runs (4 Earned) in just 2.2 innings with 1K and 3BB. His FB was 90-94 but looked straight. His CB was 76-80 and looked average. While his SPLT was 87-88. I thought that this signing was one of the best of the offseason, but it has yet to show. He has had #1 stuff in the past and is looking to get back to that level. If he finds it, the Red Sox are almost a lock to win it all this year.

Hunter Jones LHP Boston Red Sox
He came right after hitters with his FB (85-88) and SL(73-77). In 2.1 IP he had 2K and no BB and gave up no runs. He looked solid and will keep his spot in the pen if he keeps putting together outings like he did on Tuesday. He projects to be at best a LH specialist, but could be better if he keeps up the great control he showed.

Hideki Okajima LHP Boston Red Sox
He was able to use all of his pitches effectively and pitched a one hit sixth inning. His FB sat 87-89 and looked average while his CB was 75-76 and looked above average and his SPLT(82-83) looked good against righties and had straight downward action.

Takashi Saito RHP Boston Red Sox
He got hit around in the seventh inning. He gave up a HR to Mark DeRosa on an inside FB and then gave up singles to Ben Francisco and Asdrubal Cabrera. His FB was 91-93 and looked average, His SL was 84 and CB between 75-78. He had a rough day so I'm not going to make a judgement on him yet.

Ramon Ramirez RHP Boston Red Sox
He flashed two plus pitches and struck out two in 1.1 IP. His FB was 93-96 and exploded out of his hand. His best pitch is his 86-91 mph CH. It is absolutely filthy. He can strike out both LH and RH Hitters with it. It was the best pitch thrown by any pitcher in this game. The Red Sox are going to enjoy having them in the back end of their 'pen setting up Papelbon.

Javier Lopez LHP Boston Red Sox
I feel for the guy because he dropped the inning ending out at first base after a great play by Kevin Youkilis. His FB was 83-86 with good movement. His CH was 77-79 and he threw one SL at 72. He will be remembered for dropping the ball, but he pitched well and got the ground ball to get them out of the jam.
