CLE @ DET 5/2/09

Zach Miner RHP Tigers 5IP 5H 5R 0ER 3BB 5K
He had a good outing, but didn't have much help from his defense in the fifth inning. He has an above average FB(89-93) that gets good sinking movement. His best pitch is his above average CH(80-82). It gets good downward, arm side action. He used it as his strikeout pitch to both lefties and righties. He also has mixes in an average SL(82-86) and an average CB(71-74). His command is fringe-average and he projects as a 3rd or 4th starter if he improves his command. If he doesn't, he'll be a back of the rotation starter or long man in the pen.

Brandon Lyon RHP Tigers 1IP 2H
He is a reliever with a four pitch repertoire. His FB(91-94) is above average; his CB(74-77) is the classic 12-6 and is also an above average offering. He also mixes in an average, straight CH(88) and a CUT(didn't see). He has been a closer/set up man in the past, but his new role as a middle reliever may best suit him because he has an assortment of pitches.

Bobby Seay LHP Tigers 0.1H 2H 2ER 1BB
He worked with an above average FB(91-94) and an average SL(80-82). This was his worst outing of the season so far. He had trouble finding the zone and gave up an unlucky broken bat double to Victor Martinez. He's normally a dependable LH Reliever.

Joel Zumaya RHP Tigers 1.2IP 1H 1K
He's back. The only mistake he made was when he was slow to cover first base on a slowly hit ground to Miguel Cabrera. Other than that he looked great. He showed great command of all of his pitches. His FB(96-98) looked overpowering and he mixed in a CB(80-82) and CH(83) to keep hitters off balance. He would be the closer for the majority of teams right now.

Fernando Rodney RHP Tigers 1IP 2H 2K
He showed two above averages pitches. His FB(92-97) has hard sinking movement and his CH(83-87) is his best pitch and devastating to LH hitters (He also has a SL, but didnt show it). He anchors a very good Detroit bullpen.

Aaron Laffey LHP Indians 3.1IP 6H 5ER 5BB 1K
Laffey was a very difficult chart. The first thing I noticed was that all of is pitches were between 80-90mph. He has a below average Four Seam FB(87-89), below average 2-seamer (82-86) with average movement, an average SL(80-84) and below average and straight CH(80-82). He also has below average control. He is a fringe MLB pitcher.

Vinnie Chulk RHP Indians 2.2IP 2H 1ER 2BB 2K
He looked wild like the rest of the outings I had seen him. He needs to improve command or he'll be DFA'd soon.

Tony Sipp LHP Indians 0.1IP 1BB
He only threw FB's this outing (91-93). He got Guillen to fly out after three pitches and he walked Laird after a 1-2 count. I still see him as a dependable Lefty out of the pen.

Rafael Betancourt RHP Indians 1.2 IP 3H 3R 2ER 1BB 1K
He has three offerings: FB(91-94), SL(81-83), CH(85). His FB is hard and straight and his off speed pitches are average. He had a rough outing but is an average Big League reliever.
